Internet Traffic for Your Blog

So you are starting up a blog or you have a blog and want to increase traffic.  There are a few things you need to know about internet traffic and how search engines work.  Knowing this little bit of information will help you understand how to structure your blog better to make it more visible to not only your readers but also the internet search engines.

What kind of traffic do you want?  Most of us think the old fashioned way.  We have a domain name, we advertise it and hope people type it in and visit our site.  This is called direct traffic where your potential reader or customer types in your url "directly" to get to your website.  This is good for your business but requires a lot of work advertising, finding people who are looking for your information in front of a computer to get ot your website.

Then there is paid traffic.  This can be expensive.  it's where you pay for some type of ad to drive traffic to your site.  Whether it is banner ads or email listings, you are still hoping that the persom who sees your ad is looking for what you have.

A good way for you to get ranking for your blog is to have a lot of referral traffic.  What this entails is to have other wevsites pointing to your blog.  The more the better your chance of having search engines find your blog and rank it.  This system of referral traffic usually comes from what is called anchor text.  You have seen it and probably used it a thousand times during your own internet surfing.  Anchor text is a word of phrase that links to another web page.

For the most part, you have to have real good content for someone else to link to your page.  They have to love your stuff so much that they literally refer you site to other people by putting a link on their site.  This is awesome, free and a great way for search engines to notice what you have in your blog.  You can also create links to your blog from other blogs, backlinks, and bookmarking.  The beauty of tis is that a lot of these methods are absolutely free.  But to get a deep linking structure, it would take you a while to build multiple backlinks and bookmarks to make an impact on those who really know what they are doing when it comes to promoting their blog.

The last form of internet traffic is organic search engine traffic.  This is where you type in a 'keyword' in Google or and of the other search engines, the search engine give you a list of many of the web pages that contain that set of keywords.  When they click one of the sites from the search result, this is called 'organic' because the traffic came from a natural search rather than a paid one.  Usually, if your website is not on the first couple of pages, more specifically on that first set of listings, you are very unlikely to be seen.

Why is this important?  Because the people who use search engines are looking for something specific.  If they find what they are looking for on your site, you are more likely to 'convert' that person on what you have to offer them.  It's like being the first person to offer a man shoes who is looking for shoes.  He is more likely to buy the shoes from you if that is what he is looking for.  There are methods we will get into to help you increase your organic search engine traffic.  All of these things you must consider to increase the readership of your blog.  Talk to you later.
